Though Mengele murdered thousands of twins, 200-300 survived and shared their stories of “Uncle Mengele.” These are the stories of just a few victims of Mengele.
“You have just two weeks to live,” Mengele said without giving 10-year-old Eva, any medication. (“A Holocaust Survivor’s Path to Peace: Forgiving Josef Mengele”) Mengele had injected Eva with lethal bacteria in hopes of her death, so there was no point in giving her medicine. In the spring of 1944 Eva Kor, her twin sister Miriam, and her mother, arrived at Auschwitz. When they got off the train an SS guard ran towards them shouting,“Twins! Twins! Eva and Miriam were taken from their mother, never to see her again.
“Once the SS guard knew we were twins, Miriam and I were taken away from our mother, without any warning or explanation… Our screams fell on deaf ears. I remember looking back and seeing my mother's arms stretched out in despair as we were led away by a soldier… That was the last time I saw her.”
“But he had another thing coming,” Eva says defiantly. ‘If I die, then Miriam will be murdered as well.’” Some Jews, regardless of Mengele’s brutality, forgave him for what he did, but they will never forget.
One survivor tells of how she witnessed Nazi soldiers crush infants skulls with the butts of their rifles. (“Auschwitz Survivors Recall Horror Of Nazi Experiments”)
